The oldest part of the 2.5 story wood frame colonial house was built c. 1700, and consisted of the chimney and the rooms to its right. The left side rooms were apparently built not long afterward, based on similarities in the construction methods used on the two sections. The addition projecting from the right side read is a 19th-century addition.〔(【引用サイトリンク】title=NRHP nomination for Dickinson-Pillsbury-Witham House )〕 In addition to its great age, the house is notable for its ownership by inventor Paul Pillsbury, who purchased the property c. 1801.
